Hoople apprentice Jimmy Harris named 'Apprentice of the Year' at Sunshine Pride Awards 2016

Hoople apprentice Jimmy Harris, aged 19, has taken home the ‘Apprentice of the Year‘ award at this year’s Sunshine Pride Awards.

The Sunshine Pride Awards, held annually, celebrate the achievements of individuals and groups within the Sunshine Radio FM broadcast region of Herefordshire and Monmouthshire. Nominees are shortlisted from across various awards categories, including Entrepreneur, Fundraiser, Carer, and Volunteer of the Year.

Jimmy, who started his first apprenticeship with Hoople in 2015, was nominated by former colleagues at the Hoople Training and Education Centre. Having been subsequently shortlisted, Jimmy was invited to attend a plush ceremony at Hereford’s Three Counties Hotel, where he took home the ‘Apprentice of the Year’ award.

Dawn Haymonds, former manager to Jimmy at Hoople Training and Education, said: “When Jimmy first came to us, his confidence levels were so low that he struggled with any form of communication. He has achieved so much since he started with us.”

Of Jimmy’s achievements on the apprenticeship programme, his mother Shirley said: “Hoople were great and worked with Jimmy very patiently and empathetically. Jimmy has grown in confidence and Hoople have helped him to achieve this.”
