Frequently asked questions

Will I get paid?

No, you won’t, however some learners will be able to apply for a weekly bursary for help with transport, meals and equipment. Even though you won’t get paid, a traineeship will help you to gain valuable experience and knowledge that will help you to get ready for work.

How much do traineeships cost?

There will be no charge to you as the Government will pay for you to do the traineeship.

Where can I do the on the job training?

Traineeships are available across all sectors, subject to a suitable work placement being found for you.

How long do traineeships last?

Depending on your circumstances, traineeships can last anything from six weeks to six months.

When can I start?

Any time, as traineeships are available throughout the year.

How many days will be spent ‘on the job’ and how many at the Hoople Training Centre?

This will vary but usually about one day per week will be spent at the Hoople Training Centre. On these days, you may be improving your maths, English and ICT skills and/ or taking part in employability skills training, for example learning about:

  • Completing job applications
  • CV writing
  • Interview skills
  • Communication
  • Team working

However, there is no ‘typical’ traineeship as each learner will be individually assessed and your programme will be designed around your needs and your work placement.

Will I get any help or support?

Yes, you will be allocated a dedicated tutor who will be there to help you to set your goals and to offer feedback and advice.

What happens after the traineeship?

If you find that you enjoy the work environment where you’ve been based, the next natural step is to start an apprenticeship.
