Job details

Play a part in changing lives - Helping people to help themselves.

We are seeking Link Workers to mentor struggling parents, young people and individuals - often living in challenging and unimaginable circumstances.

John Venn founded Hereford City Mission in 1856 to save families from the workhouse. Today there is no workhouse yet families and individuals with multiple and complex needs face unprecedented struggles with little or no support. Today Hereford City Mission is renamed Vennture and, like our founder, we want to show The Power of Jesus Love in practice.

We are determined to make a difference in the lives of these vulnerable people - parents, or young people or adults. Before they lose their job, home or children, or are forced onto the street or into the criminal justice system we want to come alongside them. We want to show them unconditional love, help them rediscover hope and support them in making different and often challenging choices for themselves.

Due to increasing demand for our high impact relational approach, Vennture has a range of full or part time Link Worker posts. With the support of well-trained volunteer mentors, you will work directly with these people. You will follow and deliver a proven process that helps people face their problems, realise their own resources and support them to help themselves in taking a new direction. You will work with many agencies across the county. You will attend meetings to work together to find appropriate support for the individuals. You will monitor progress towards the outcomes the family or individual has set for themselves and evidence change to our funders and partner agencies.

The role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to manage a demanding workload and most important of all – genuine hard-edged compassion and understanding. It requires a resourceful, creative approach to problem solving and the ability to stick with people through thick and thin. You will be working in a supportive team, with strong, appropriate professional supervision and clear ethos based on ‘Loving People Better’.

Christian vision, ethos and principles underpin the way Vennture operates, and it is expected that the successful applicant will have empathy with and be able to embrace our Venn values of Responsibility, Family, Industry and Enterprise.  They will connect to our sense of purpose and vision and be able to integrate swiftly and successfully into our hard working and friendly team and enjoy being part of a challenging and ground breaking initiative.
