Required for January 2018 [Ideally]

Can you lead, inspire and motivate the whole school community leading to the enhancement of the Teaching and Learning experience for all students enabling them to maximise their potential? We are seeking such an individual to take over from our current headteacher who is retiring on 31 December 2017 after over 18 years invaluable service to the school.

St Mary’s RC High School is a successful, popular and over-subscribed mixed 11-16 Catholic Voluntary-aided school of 750 students with an excellent reputation, located 3 miles to the east of Hereford city. The school was last inspected by Ofsted in 2013 and deemed Good; in the Section 48 inspection by the Archdiocese it was awarded excellent status. Exam results have been consistently in the top 15% nationally and progress measures for all students are significantly above national average.

Staff are professional, dedicated and highly motivated; parents are supportive and the students are committed and cooperative. The Governing Body works strongly in partnership to provide the ideal environment for the education of the students.

Hereford is a fast-growing cathedral city with the first new UK University in 30 years, due to open in 2019 with an emphasis on Engineering, Technology and Science, especially Cyber Security.

Applications are welcomed from committed, practising Catholics with:

  • A strong faith commitment and a clear vision for Catholic Education with Gospel values at the core;

  • The inspiration and vision to lead, with a passion for teaching and learning;

  • A real desire to build upon the school’s many successes and to enhance all aspects of school life;

  • The ability to communicate through inter-personal skills the integrity, energy and inspiration to enthuse all members of the school community;

  • Knowledge of current educational issues with the understanding and ability to plan strategically and financially;

  • Skills to build a school culture and curriculum that takes account of both the school’s Catholic Foundation and the richness and diversity of the school’s communities;

  • The ability to build and maintain effective relationships and work closely through consultation with staff, Governors, Diocese, LA and the community.

We are an equal opportunities employer welcoming applications from all sections of the community. St Mary’s is committed to Safeguarding. Applicants are required to have an enhanced DBS disclosure and level 5 Safeguarding training.

Interview dates: Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th October 2017
