The Governors of Ashperton Primary Academy are seeking to appoint a Clerk to the Governing Body to support governance at this successful Academy school from April 2022. This role is critical to the effective operation of the Governing Body.


The main roles of the Clerk are to provide the Governors with administrative and organisational support and with guidance on governance, constitutional and procedural matters.


We are looking for a Clerk who has:

• experience of clerking in schools or academies or experience of school governance;

• a keen interest in supporting high standards of school governance;

• excellent administration and organisational skills and attention to detail;

• strong written and verbal communication skills;

• the ability to develop effective working relationships and to offer constructive challenge where appropriate; and

• proficient IT skills including uploading documents to the school website and email.

Working pattern

You would be required to attend 10 evening meetings per academic year, 4 Full Governing Body, 3 Finance, Resources & Audit Committee, and 3 Curriculum meetings plus an annual Members Meeting. The rest of the role can be done from home at your convenience.


Ashperton Primary Academy is committed to the protection and safety of its pupils and therefore all candidates will be subject to ID checks and a Disclosure and Barring Service check at Enhanced Level. The post will require you to deal with queries from children and you will, therefore, be engaged in regulated activity.
