As Deputy Head Teacher at the Brookfield School, you will have the chance to teach in a creative and inspiring way, lead a team of committed teachers and to help us shape the vision of the school as we continue to move forwards to being an outstanding provision.
Working as part of the senior leadership team, you will help to set the vision for the future of the school, ensuring our young people leave our school as confident, resilient, emotionally literate, ambitious and tolerant young people who are effective communicators in wider society. We want them to be proud of what they have achieved and have high expectations of themselves and for their futures.
You will be an outstanding teacher who can continue to model this to colleagues and who has a genuine passion for working with children with additional needs. You will be dedicated to working with families, championing vulnerable children and will have a working knowledge of SEN in terms of practice and legislative frameworks. As Deputy Head you will take on the role of SENDCo and be responsible for allocating significant resource for vulnerable pupils, including measuring their progress and reporting on impact.
We want to interview candidates who can evidence that they have experience of closing the gaps in learning for pupils who are experiencing challenge, particularly in regulating their behaviours. As importantly, you’re someone who is resilient, innovative and has the type of enthusiasm that’s infectious, so that you bring about change in a positive way. You’re also sensitive, respectfully challenging, patient and kind: just the type of leader our students, pupils and community can relate to.
Brookfield School is a specialist school for children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs, associated learning needs and challenging behaviours in Hereford. We cater for 90 girls and boys between the ages of 6 and 16, and also have a primary intervention programme supporting children aged 5 – 11 to remain in mainstream settings or to assess children without an EHCP.
We were placed into Special Measures in January 2020 after an Ofsted Inspection which highlighted significant failings of the previous management. A new Head Teacher was appointed in September 2019, a new Board of Trustees was appointed in November 2019 and already, very significant positive progress has been made on all counts required of the school. Pupil, staff and families’ morale is good and we are very positive about the bright future of the school.
The school is going through an exciting time of change and is due to start a significant project of building to enhance the provision on offer; specifically around sports and vocational learning.
The Brookfield School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All applicants must be willing to undergo safeguarding screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and disclosures with the relevant body at an enhanced level. We are an equal opportunities employer.
