WMWA - Exciting New Opportunity!

 

Despite the constraints of the current emergency, West Mercia Women’s Aid (WMWA) are working hard with Herefordshire Council and other local partners to continue to provide much-needed support for those affected by domestic abuse.

We are expanding our portfolio of safe accommodation, and making sure that support services for those facing a number of challenges have the specialist domestic abuse support that they need. 

We are also ensuring that support is available for all children and young people who have been affected by domestic abuse in Hereford.

This work is commissioned for 12 months by Herefordshire Council, with funding from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) 

This post will require use of safe imaginative and innovative approaches during the COVID-19 crisis.  

WMWA is committed to being inventive and pro-active in promoting strategies to prevent the escalation of domestic abuse during self-isolation to prevent the spread of COVID-19.  

CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE’S WORKER

Safe Accommodation & Isolated Families (Band 3)

37 Hours Per Week : £21,083 p.a. 

THE ROLE INVOLVES …. 

  • Safe and/or remote provision of a range of targeted interventions and recovery programmes for children and young people affected, or at risk of, domestic abuse.
  • Regular ‘keeping in touch’ processes and the provision of resources to parents to assist with managing confusion and anxiety in their children during the period of social distancing and ‘lockdown’.

  • Ensuring that resources can be used both in group settings and remotely

  • Promoting zero tolerance to domestic abuse and teen relationships abuse

  • Manage incoming referrals and respond in an effective and timely manner

  • Developing and carrying out appropriate assessments, support plans and reviews

  • Effective communication with parents/carers and referring agencies

  • Working in collaboration with other agencies to facilitate joint working

  • Ensuring the voice of the child is heard 

YOU WILL HAVE …. 

  • A flair for engaging, empowering and inspiring children and young people

  • A desire to make a difference

  • Experience of delivering age-appropriate interventions

  • Experience of working with vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people, singly and in groups including within a community or schools setting

  • Experience of working in a multi-agency framework

  • Good knowledge and understanding of domestic abuse and safeguarding

  • A commitment to the values of empowerment and equality.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and good written/verbal communication skills

  • The ability to maintain clear professional boundaries
  • Car user essential

  • 37 Hours Per week– 12 Month Fixed Term Contract
