Job details

January 2019 Start

Herefordshire Pupil Referral Service (HPRS) provides education to pupils unable to attend mainstream school for various reasons. The service is currently split over two sites located within Hereford – St David’s Centre (KS4) and The Aconbury Centre (KS3). We cater for 80 pupils with 24 places for pupils in Key Stage 3 based at The Aconbury Centre. The successful candidate will lead the provision at Key Stage 3.

HPRS provides a safe, secure and welcoming learning environment in which young people can grow as responsible, independent and self-confident learners. We are on an exciting journey of school improvement and have made rapid and significant improvements of which we are all very proud.

The service benefits from a supportive Management Committee, an effective Senior Leadership Team and a dynamic team of experienced, committed staff. We are now looking to recruit a Head of KS3 with the right values, vision and ability to lead the KS3 provision forward in the next phase of its development.

We are looking for a senior leader who enjoys a challenge and has a passion for pupil achievement. Experience of working in a PRU setting would be advantageous but not essential. We are looking for someone with strong leadership experience, resilience, who is approachable, reflective and open minded.

Currently graded as "Good" by Ofsted, we aim to re-engage our pupils with learning and to provide them with a high quality curriculum where they can develop their skills in a safe and secure environment.

Leading the Service at Key Stage 3 you must be able to demonstrate the following skills:

  • Lead, organise and manage The Aconbury Centre;

  • Work with challenging children;

  • Demonstrate a strong knowledge of Key Stage 3;

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with staff, parents and pupils;

  • Liaise with outside agencies;

  • Work with children who have emotional and behavioural difficulties;

  • Stay calm in all situations.

Please note that only shortlisted applicants will be contacted to arrange an interview.

Herefordshire Pupil Referral Service is committed to the protection and safety of its pupils and therefore all candidates will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check at Enhanced Level.
