The role of temporary Pastoral Manager at St Mary’s is a non-teaching post, designed to support the existing pastoral team, which includes five Heads of Year and an Assistant Headteacher who oversees the overall provision at the school.

Due to the current situation where pupils are taught and socialise in year group bubbles, there is limited scope for form tutor intervention and support. Consequently, there is increased pressure on the capacity of the existing pastoral team. We are therefore looking to create an exciting opportunity to work within our ‘Outstanding’ school and make a positive contribution in our close-knit school community.

The successful candidate would support the Head of Year team with the day-to-day pastoral priorities including both administrative duties and social interventions with pupils. The role would include:

  • Taking phone calls on behalf of Heads of Year and dealing with any immediate enquiries or concerns

  • Making appointments for meetings with Heads of Year and general liaison with parents

  • Maintaining relevant year related documentation e.g. pupil files, records, behaviour reports and progress updates

  • Liaison with multi-agencies e.g. Attendance and social care, including attendance at relevant meetings

  • Communication with other schools regarding in-year transfer of pupils etc

  • Support with general behaviour management, sanctions and the school’s code of conduct for pupils

  • Liaison with Heads of Department regarding curriculum based queries or concerns for particular pupils/year groups

  • Other such duties as directed by the Head of Year Team or Assistant Head with responsibility for pastoral care

Ideally, the successful candidate would have experience of working effectively with young people relevant to the role outlined above, and be committed to complementing our existing pastoral team.

This role is temporary in the first instance, with the possibility of becoming a permanent position.
