Job details

The Governors, staff and children of the River Wye Federation Schools seek an Executive Headteacher to lead our schools from September 2020.

Our federation currently comprises two Church of England primary schools: Weston-under-Penyard CE Primary School and Whitchurch CE Primary School. Both are small village schools, highly popular in their rural communities, close to the towns of Monmouth and Ross-on-Wye. Our location offers good access by road to applicants from Herefordshire, South Wales, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire.

Both schools are highly respected and successful. However, we are ambitious to continue providing excellence for our children, and enthusiastic to continue developing our federation.

We want our new Executive Headteacher to be:

  • an experienced leader whose ethos inspires the whole school community
  • a great teacher at heart who motivates children and adults to be the best they can be
  • a passionate advocate for inclusion, well-being and safeguarding
  • an enterprising innovator who looks beyond our schools to build collaborative networks
  • an excellent communicator who forges strong relationships with parents, the community and the church
  • a meticulous manager of finance, systems and projects

Visits to both schools form an essential part of an application. Visits are available between 3rd February and 14th February, and between 24th and 28th February, and can be scheduled by phoning Mrs Cheryl Jones on 01600 890571.

Our schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This position is subject to a criminal records check from the Disclosure and Barring Service which will require you to disclose details of all unspent and unfiltered spent reprimands, formal warnings, cautions and convictions in your application form.

For more information contact

An application pack containing an application form is on the website of both schools. Completed application forms should be emailed to
