Position summary

Team Leaders provide direct support and care to people living in their own home and their community. Team Leaders have responsibility to ensure the support their team provides is entirely person-centred and responds to the needs and wishes of each person the team supports. The people Aspire supports have a learning disability and may have additional or complex needs. 

Supervisory responsibilities

Team Leadersare responsible for ensuring everyone in their team provides person-centred support and will liaise with the people supported, family/carers and key stakeholders including professionals such as social workers.

Main duties

  • Ensure the support and care you provide, and provided by every member of their team, is of the highest quality and entirely person-centred, focussed on the wellbeing of each individual supported and responding to their needs, and compliant with Aspire’s values, ethos, policies and procedures.

  • Ensure everyone supported by the team has a consistent support circle, including key workers, family members and other stakeholders such as professionals, always responding to the needs and wishes of the individual supported and encouraging family and social contact.

  • Communicate appropriately and effectively with members of the support circle of each person supported as required, keeping accurate records.

  • Undertake person-centred planning, reviews, monitoring and reporting to evidence targets and outcomes, responding as appropriate to changing and additional needs.

  • Carry out and review person-centred risk assessments as required, ensuring the individual’s wishes and choices are at the centre of the process.

  • Undertake fact-finding under direction as required to support responses to incidents, queries or complaints.

  • Prepare staff rotas ensuring consistency of support and service efficiency including organising cover for annual leave or absence.

  • Carry out, help with or support routine internal audit processes.

  • Take part in staff recruitment and selection according to Aspire’s policies and processes, ensuring people the team support have a meaningful involvement in the process and can exercise choice.

  • Supervise and support new staff throughout their induction and probation, undertaking observations as required for quality assurance, accreditation and timely probation sign-off.

  • At the direction of and in liaison with the Registered Manager conduct staff 1-1’s, ensuring the needs of the people supported by the staff team is at the heart of everything they do.

  • Contribute to staff performance appraisals as required.

  • Arrange and take part in routine team meetings, recording and reporting as directed.

  • At the direction of and in liaison with the Registered Manager and HR, take part in performance management, disciplinary or grievance procedures.

  • Undertake administrative tasks as required including maintaining accurate records, timesheets, billing sheets, mileage, incident reporting etc.

  • Keep accurate records, monitor and ensure staff compliance with all electronic call monitoring systems used by the team.

  • Ensure the support delivered by each member of the team and all registration, recording and reporting is compliant with all relevant standards including health and safety and of the Care Quality Commission.

Person specification

Education, qualification and training

  • NVQ 3 in Management and Leadership or working towards

  • NVQ 3 in Health and Social Care or working towards

  • Good numeracy and literacy skills eg GCSE Maths and English or equivalent

  • Good level of IT Skills

Experience, Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience of working with people with LD

  • Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills – verbal and written

  • Ability to present information in a clear and concise and accurate manner – both verbally and written

  • Ability to organise/co-ordinate and facilitate meetings

  • Ability to work as part of a team but also using own initiative

  • Able to follow instructions, direction and guidance and seek these as appropriate

  • Understanding of and commitment to the principles of equality and diversity, particularly in a care and support environment.

  • Ability to work under pressure

  • Positive and practical attitude

Additional requirements

  • Car driver with valid licence
  • Full-time ownership/use of car for business use with current tax, MOT if applicable and insurance to cover business user and carrying of passengers
