The Night Care Assistant/ Senior Carer provide waking night cover for the Home including the performance of domestic duties.
Policies and Procedures of the Home and the Service Users' Charter which are detailed in separate documents bind all employees.
The job descriptions of Care Assistant and Senior Carer are applicable to the respective positions of the night staff. Therefore, the following is only a brief list of responsibilities.
Principal duties and responsibilities:
•To help Service Users who need assistance with washing and toileting, dressing and undressing.
•To help Service Users whom have limited mobility or physical disabilities making best use of aids provided.
•To assist in the control of incontinence, providing comfort with dignity.
•To care for Service Users who are temporarily unwell including the application of minor dressings and basic bed care.
•To help care for Service Users who are dying keeping the officer in charge of the Home fully informed of events.
•To read and write reports, to take part in staff and Service Users’ meetings (where appropriate) and attend training sessions when requested.
•To assist Service Users to bed when they choose to retire.
•To carry out hourly checks and complete records on Service Users throughout the night, unless more frequent intervals are requested by the Home Manager.
•To carry out fire checks at regular intervals throughout the working period.
•To answer call bells and give assistance to Service Users as required.
•To give help and reassurance to Service Users, as necessary, including provision of simple and non-prescribed medicines within the approved control procedures of the Home.
•To in the time available between attending to Service Users, undertake domestic duties (laundry, ironing, food preparation, table-laying, dusting, cleaning, etc.) as directed.
•Wipe up all spillages immediately
•Sweep and mop all floors in the living areas including hallways, sitting rooms and dining rooms
•Clean all chairs and tables with hot water or disinfectant.
•To ensure that the security of the Home is maintained at all times
•Ensure that all areas are clean and washing up are clear away before handover
•To follow approved hand-over procedures at end of each duty session.
•To follow approved procedures involving Social Services personnel and associated policies.
•To carry out any other duties that may occur from time to time as may be required by the Home Manager or Senior staff.
