Levels 2 and 3 Children and Young People's Workforce

Who is it for?

Anyone who is interested in working (or who already works) with children, for example as a nursery or playgroup assistant or perhaps in a children’s home or in the reception class of a primary school.

What personal qualities will I need?

Obviously, you must like children! You will have a warm personality and lots of patience and common sense. It’ll help if you’re creative and cheerful and you must be totally reliable and trustworthy.

Are there any entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements as the apprenticeship programme will include training in maths, English and ICT skills if you do not already hold a GCSE Grade A-C (or Grade 4 after 2017) in these subjects.

What kind of things will I learn?

This will depend upon the particular setting, but you will be learning how to:

  • Support children in various different environments
  • Developing and nurturing children’s social skills
  • Building relationships with parents and children
  • Assessing children’s development

What qualification will I achieve?

Completion of this apprenticeship will take 12 to 18 months. On successful completion, you will be awarded either a level 2 Diploma in Children and Young People's Workforce or a level 3 Diploma in Early Years Education.
