Levels 2 and 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools

Who is it for?

The STLS programme is for anyone who is working in a school setting with children of all ages and abilities. It is suitable both for those newly employed in a school as a teaching and support assistant and those who are already working in a school and wish to progress their career.

What personal qualities will I need?

You will need to be able to get on with children and adults and be a team player. Other requirements are the ability to be flexible (as classrooms can be unpredictable places!), patience and sensitivity.

Are there any entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements as the apprenticeship programme will include training in maths, English and ICT skills if you do not already hold a GCSE Grade A-C (or Grade 4 after 2017) in these subjects.

What kind of things will I learn?

Your learning will cover four broad areas:

  • Supporting pupils
  • Supporting teachers
  • Supporting the school
  • Supporting the curriculum

What qualification will I achieve?

Either a level 2 or level 3 City and Guilds qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools.

How long does it take?

12-18 months.
