Death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II

It is with great sadness we mourn the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II which was confirmed by the Lord Chamberlain’s Office on 8 September 2022.

Elizabeth Alexandra Mary was born on 21 April 1926, and ascended the throne at the age of 25 upon the death of her father, George VI, on 6 February 1952. The coronation took place a year later on 2 June 1953.

Queen Elizabeth II ruled for longer than any other Monarch in British history and became a much loved and respected figure across the globe. Known for her sense of duty and her devotion to a life of service, she was an important figurehead for the UK and the Commonwealth during times of enormous social change.

Books of condolence will be open around the county for those wishing to pay respect and will be open daily.
