Job details

Start date: ASAP

Kingstone High School is a small high school seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed individual to join our team in a new role.  The member of staff appointed will be required to undertake the following responsibilities in supervising students who have infringed our Behaviour Policy and placed in the Inclusion room (named the ‘Ready to Learn’ centre) as part of their sanction and to provide time for reflection on their actions.

  • Provide supervision for students and the work assigned to them.
  • Maintain an orderly, attractive, clean and safe environment conducive to learning.
  • Maintain high standards of behaviour and promote positive behavioural strategies for students under your supervision.
  • Arrange for the collection of work for students to complete and for its return to teachers.
  • Organise and update the resources available to students in your supervision.
  • Maintain a daily log of students assigned to the room and record their progress and work completed.
  • Organise for students to have their break and lunch time orders collected from the dining room to avoid having to leave the room at break or lunch time.
  • Liaise with Phase Leaders, the Deputy Headteacher and the wider Pastoral Team regarding the behaviour and learning difficulties of students.
  • Build positive and respectful relationships with students, following the culture of the ‘When the Adults Change, everything changes’ model by Paul Dix.

The successful candidate will build respectful relationships with staff, students, families and other stakeholders in order to secure their trust and engagement and communicate with students and parents about positive resolutions to any learning barriers.

Training will be provided. We would endeavour to upskill the successful candidate through broadening their professional development, including the training required to become a licensed Thrive Practitioner.

The member of staff appointed to this position may occasionally need to support triage or on-call needs when no student is placed in the Ready to Learn Centre. They will need to be able to work effectively with identified children and children with demanding needs.

The ability to communicate appropriately and relate well with young people and adults is essential.  Excellent numeracy, literacy skills and I.C.T. skills sufficient to advance students' learning are necessary for this position. An ability to offer practical skills support to students would be an advantage.

Kingstone Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful candidate will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service enhanced check and further pre-employment checks will be conducted in accordance with KCSIE. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
