Job details

Required 1st August 2025 (or sooner)

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Caretaker at our ‘outstanding’ secondary school.
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Annualised Hours Caretaker. This role is ideal for someone who is adaptable and able to perform during periods of high activity. The position is based on an annualised hours contract, meaning the total hours worked in the year (predominantly during term-time) are pre-determined. You will be required to work some hours during holiday periods in order to complete necessary maintenance work or cover for colleagues’ holidays.

The contract is based on 1,200 hours which equates to 30 hours per week, over 40 weeks of the year. The hours are mainly to be worked during Monday to Fridays in term time. Holiday cover will be worked in agreement with the Site Manager. We are also open to job share applications. A full driving licence is required and the ability to work some unsocial hours, to assist with out-of-hours school events.

Working at St Mary’s offers a good quality of life in a highly professional, ambitious and caring Catholic community. The post-holder would become part of a committed and friendly support staff team.

St Mary’s High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. As part of our due diligence an online search will be carried out on shortlisted candidates. The successful candidate will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service enhanced check and further pre-employment checks will be conducted in accordance with KCSIE. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.

Candidates successfully shortlisted for interview will be notified by 5pm on Wednesday 18th June.

Completed applications are to be emailed to cbryan@st-maryshigh.hereford.sch.uk or handed into the
main school reception for the attention of Christine Bryan.

We look forward to receiving your application.
